FAQ

Have Questions?

Q: Can I register for a FIDE-rated section if I’m not a FIDE member?
A: Yes you may still register for the event, however, all players in FIDE rated sections are required to have a valid FIDE ID at the start of the tournament. FIDE IDs are provided by national chess federations, free of charge. If you do not have one and are eligible to receive a USA registered FIDE ID, please complete this US Chess FIDE ID Request Form as soon as possible:
FIDE ID Request for USA Players
Non-USA players not eligible for a USA-flagged FIDE ID must contact their own federation to obtain a FIDE ID. The contacts for other federations can be found at: FIDE Member Federation Directory

Q: If I play in a FIDE-rated section but don’t already have a FIDE rating, will I earn a FIDE rating at the end of the event?
A: Players without a FIDE rating will earn a FIDE rating after they have played at least five games against FIDE-rated opponents and scored at least 1/2 point from those games. So it may be that a player won’t earn a FIDE rating from a single tournament, but you will eventually if you continue to play in FIDE-rated events. More information can be found here: Initial FIDE Ratings Explained

Q: How do FIDE rules differ from USCF rules?
A: A good summary of the differences can be found here:
FIDE vs USCF Rules Comparison

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Registered players may cancel their registration at any time up to one hour prior to the start of the first round for a full refund less a 5% processing fee. No refunds will be given after that time.
Players may cancel by sending an email to Info@BannerChess.com
